Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the mucous membranes of the oral cavity. Oral lichen planus is not transmitted from one person to another. Symptoms can usually be managed medically. However, those who have oral lichen planus needs to be checked regularly because this lesion has high chances of transforming into malignancy at the affected areas.
Signs and Symptoms
Commonly found on the cheeks as lacy web-like, white threads that are slightly raised Open sores Burning sensation or pain Sensitivity to hot, acidic or spicy foods Bleeding and irritation with tooth brushing Inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) Painful, thickened patches on the tongue Discomfort when speaking, chewing or swallowing
Common Causes
Not really understood; maybe Autoimmune disorder Can be triggered by : medications such as SNAIDs, beta-blockers, sulfonylureas, some ACE inhibitors, and some antimalarials, allergic reaction mechanical trauma viral infections such as HCV

Treatment and Prevention
Symptomatic treatment for pain such, Corticosteroids to reduce inflammation, Immunosuppressants such as Azathioprine, Maintain good oral hygiene
