Prevention Of Diphtheria Tetanus Pertussis Haemophilus Influenzae Type B Infection
Overview
Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP) vaccination and Haemophilus Influenzae type B (HiB) vaccination are the ideal way of preventing these infections. DTaP and HiB vaccines are routinely given together to children at the age of 2 months, 3 months, 5 months, and 18 months. A booster dose for diphtheria and tetanus is given at the age of 7 years and another one is given again at the age of 15 years. Other ways to prevent these include avoiding close contact with people who are infected. Next, keep your hands clean by washing them with soap and water, or alcohol-based hand rub. If you are sick, stay at home to prevent spreading the disease to other people. Close contacts should be treated with antibiotics or a booster dose of the vaccine.
