Prevention Of Diphtheria Tetanus Whooping Cough Hepatitis B Poliomyelitis Meningitis
Overview
Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP), hepatitis B (HepB), inactivated polio vaccine (IPV), meningococcal conjugate, serogroup B meningococcal, and Haemophilus Influenzae type B (HiB) vaccinations are the ideal way of preventing these diseases. DTaP, IPV and HiB vaccines are routinely given together to children at the age of 2, 3, 5, and 18 months. A booster dose for diphtheria and tetanus is given to 7 and 15 year-olds. HepB vaccine is given to newborns, 1 month-olds and 6 month-olds. Other than these, keep your hands clean by washing them thoroughly. If you are sick, stay at home to prevent spreading the disease to other people. Close contacts should be treated with antibiotics or a booster dose of the vaccine.
