Measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (MMRV) combination vaccine, or measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) combination vaccine is the ideal way of preventing mumps. MMRV vaccine is only given to children between the age of 12 months to 12 years. In Malaysia, the MMR vaccine is routinely given to children at the age of 12 months and 7 years. If you are infected with the virus, stay at home to prevent spreading the disease to other people. People infected with the virus should be excluded from school or work for at least 9 days from the onset of symptoms or until swelling in the salivary glands have obviously subsided. Also, cover up your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze.
