Cephalexin is commonly used to treat bacterial infections, respiratory tract infection
Cephalexin works by binding to the Penicillin-Binding Proteins to inhibit the final step of transpeptidation of the peptidoglycan synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. This results in failure of cell wall synthesis which ultimately leads to the death of the bacteria.

There is no contraindication on the consumption of alcohol with Cephalexin suggested by any previous clinical data. However, the side effects of alcohol may worsen the adverse reaction of Cephalexin and caution should be taken by the user.
Animal studies have been shown to be safe for fetal development but no adequate data to suggest the same on human pregnancy study or to suggest harm either. Caution should be taken when commencing someone on Cephalexin during pregnancy.
Cephalexin is excreted into the human breastmilk and it may cause the infant's bowel microflora to be affected when Cephalexin is given at therapeutic dose to the mother. It is, therefore, can be used during breastfeeding but with caution.
Cephalexin is safe to be used before driving as no side effects profile are known to cause impairment in the concentration level of driving or operating machinery although caution should be taken if one is developing confusion or hallucination (which are rare).
Cephalexin is excreted by the kidneys and dosage adjustment is advisable for people with severe renal impairment.
Cephalexin may increase the INR of a patient with hepatic impairment and close monitoring is advisable.
