Ketoconazole is commonly used to treat fungal infections and severe fungal infections. it can also be used in the treatment of dandruff.

How Ketoconazole Works

Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication which inhibits fungal enzymes, altering the cell membrane permeability of the fungi and causes the accumulation of high levels of toxic hydrogen peroxide.

Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Rash, Skin irritation, Burning sensation of the skin, Pruritus, Headache, Dizziness, Fever

Ketoconazole Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Ketoconazole. Taking Ketoconazole with alcohol may lead to disulfiram-like reactions. It may lead to severe flushing, headache, dizziness, tachycardia and abdominal discomfort.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Ketoconazole may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal reproduction studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus. However, there are limited well-controlled human studies. The benefits from the use of Ketoconazole in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

Ketoconazole is probably unsafe to use during lactation. There are limited data on the use of Ketoconazole during lactation. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

There are no studies of Ketoconazole on the effect of ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Ketoconazole should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Ketoconazole may not be required. However, please consult your doctor.

Liver Limited Data

Ketoconazole should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. In patients with severe liver impairment, oral Ketoconazole is contraindicated. Dose adjustment or alternative routes of administration of Ketoconazole may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
