Orlistat is commonly used to treat obesity.
Orlistat inhibits the absorption of dietary fats through the formation of a covalent bond with the active serine residue site of the pancreatic and gastric lipases. This will prevent the hydrolysis of dietary fat in the form of triglycerides into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides.
Flatulence, Fecal incontinence, Fatty stools or discharge, Headache, Anxiety, Fatigue, Urinary tract infection, Menstrual disturbances.
It is safe to consume alcohol while taking orlistat. There are no changes in alcohol pharmacokinetics, orlistat pharmacodynamics or systemic exposure to orlistat.
