How Tropicamide Works

Tropicamide is a mydriatic agent, working by blocking the muscarinic receptors (M4) in the eye muscles such as iris sphincter muscles and ciliary muscles, leading to pupil dilation and ciliary muscle paralysis which ease the process of the eye examination.

Side Effects of Tropicamide

Increased intraocular pressure, Brief stinging of eyes, Dry mouth, Blurred vision, Photophobia, Headache

Alcohol Safe

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Tropicamide eye drop when used concomitantly.

Pregnancy Not Safe

There are no safety data on the use of Tropicamide during pregnancy in animal studies and human studies. Thus, it should only be used when considered necessary by your doctor. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

Driving Not advisable

Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Tropicamide may cause side effects such as visual disturbance which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Tropicamide is safe to use in patients with kidney impairment.

Liver Limited Data

Tropicamide is safe to use in patients with liver impairment.
