Bacterial Eye Infections

Overview

Bacterial eye infections occurs when bacteria enters the eyeball or the surrounding tissues of the eye including cornea,thin membrane of the outer eye and the conjunctiva which later on leads to infection of the eye.

Signs and Symptoms

Red eyes, Pain, Eye discharge, Watery eyes, Dry eyes, Light Sensitivity, Swollen eyes, Swelling around the eyes, Itching, Blurry vision

Common Causes

Neisseria gonorrhoea, chlamydia, S.pneumoniae, Pesudomonas arigenosa

Risk Factors

Exposure to infected individuals, Fomite contact, Contact lens wear, Sinusitis,, Immunodeficiency states , Prior ocular disease , Trauma , Exposure to agents of sexually transmitted disease at birth
