Children younger than 6 years old, Children who spend time in child-care settings, Weakened immune system, Autumn or winter season, Smoking, Exposure to others who have a common cold, Children younger than 6 years old, Elderly people

Medical history, Physical examination, Full blood count, Throat swab, Sputum culture, Heterophile antibody test, C-reactive protein level, Viral testing, Chest X-ray, Sinus X-ray, Sinus CT scan

Treatment and Prevention

Rest and sleep, Keep warm, Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, Gargle salt water to soothe the sore throat, Lozenges to help soothe the sore throat as well, Antihistamines, Quit smoking
