Eye Infection With Inflammation

Overview

Eye infection with inflammation is a common problem affecting people of all ages. Eye infection can develop in any parts of the eye due to different types of viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Some of the most common types of eye infections are stye, conjunctivitis, uveitis, blepharitis, and keratitis. Symptoms of eye infection with inflammation include redness of the affected eye, swelling, pain or discomfort in the eye, itching, eye discharge, light sensitivity, and vision changes. If left untreated, some of these cases can result in complications such as permanent vision loss, cataract, glaucoma, and retinal detachment. Eye infection is usually managed by treating the underlying cause. Medications used to manage eye infection are antivirals, antibiotics, antifungals, corticosteroids, anti-inflammatory, and immunosuppressants. Putting a cool and moist washcloth on closed eyes a few times a day, flushing of the eyes with saline, and avoiding contact lenses for some time can also help.
