Genital Warts

Overview

Genital Warts are flesh coloured growths on the genital area. Some are extremely small and hard to notice and some can even grow large. Genital warts are sexually transmitted and caused by Human papillomavirus (HPV).

Signs and Symptoms

Bumps or growth felt at the genital area, Itchiness, Pain, Discomfort, Vaginal discharge in women, Pain during intercourse

Common Causes

Infection caused by human papillomavirus (HPV)

Risk Factors

Age, Smoking, Immunocompromised having HIV or AIDS, Unprotected sexual intercourse, Multiple sex partners

Investigation Techniques

Pelvic examination, Pap smear for women

Treatment and Prevention

Topical wart cream: Such as imiquimod, podophyllin, and trichloroacetic acid, Electrocautery, Cryotherapy, Surgical excision, Laser removal
