Pre Cancerous Anal Lesions

Overview

Precancerous Anal Lesion or anal dysplasia refers to growths or changes in the skin cells in the anal region which are non-cancerous in the beginning but later develop into cancer. They are called anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN).

Signs and Symptoms

Warts or growths at the anal region, Pain during defecation, Itchiness, Discharge, Bleeding

Risk Factors

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, Multiple sexual partners, Anal sex, Unprotective sex, Presence of other precancerous condition

Investigation Techniques

Anal swab and cytology, Anoscopy, High resolution anoscopy (HRA), Biopsy

Treatment and Prevention

Removal surgery using electrocautery or laser, Topical cream, Photodynamic therapy, HPV vaccination, Practice safe sex, HIV treatment
