Postoperative Anaerobic Bacterial Infections is highly prevalent across the globe. Multiple measures are required to be done by the professionals involved in surgical unit to prevent the infection since it can lead to catastrophic complications such as sepsis and in worst case scenario like death. Although they are common and may be serious and life threatening, but still they are usually overlooked. Bacteroides fragilis group, Prevotella spp.,Porphyromonas spp., Fusobacterium spp., Clostridium spp., Actinomyces spp. and Peptostreptococcus spp are the vital anaerobic bacteria encountered in surgical cases. The typical anaerobic bacterial infections include oral infection, gas gangrene, brain abscess, lung abscesses, intra-abdominal abscesses, wound infections following gynecologic and bowel surgery, perirectal abscesses, postabortal infections and septic thrombophlebitis. To investigate these infections, sampling for anaerobic cultures is required.
