Overview

Scabies is a skin infestation caused by a specific group of mite known as Sarcoptes scaebiei. This condition is contagious and it is recommended to treat the whole family members that are staying under one roof.

Signs and Symptoms

Intense itching especially at night, A pimple-like rash, Scales or blisters, Sores caused by scratching

Common Causes

Infestation of tiny eight-legged mites.

Risk Factors

Young age, Presence of many children in the household, Low family income, Poor housing, Sharing clothes and towels, Irregular showering

Investigation Techniques

Ectoparasite prep, Skin biopsy, Epiluminescence light microscopy

Treatment and Prevention

Permethrin cream, Lindane lotion, Crotamiton (Eurax), Ivermectin (Stromectol)
