Softening Of Earwax

Overview

Earwax is a waxy substance that is found in the ear which is produced by the sebaceous gland in the ear. The earwax functions to lubricate, cleans and protects the surface of the ear and the eardrum. Earwax contains antibacterial properties and it is also slightly acidic in nature, so without earwax, the ear canal will be dry, and more prone to infection. Having said that, when too much earwax aggregates, it can harden up and cause reduced hearing in most scenario. There are many ways to soften earwax. One of them is the use of earwax softeners which can be found in pharmacies. Baby oil, mineral oil glycerin, and hydrogen peroxide also can act as softeners. Some people use the irrigation of water to soften the ear wax and clean the ear, and this technique is not advisable as irrigation with excessive water can cause unwanted complications.
