How Moxonidine Works

It works centrally at the brainstem by stimulating imidazoline receptors to reduce sympathetic tone.

Side Effects of Moxonidine

Low heart rate (Bradycardia), Ringing ear (Tinnitus), Headache, Dizziness, Somnolence, Fainting (Syncope), Hypotension, Diarrhea, Dry mouth, Nausea and vomiting

Moxonidine Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Moxonidine. Taking Moxonidine with alcohol may have additive effects in the central nervous system.

Pregnancy Limited Data

There is no information regarding the usage of Moxonidine in pregnancy.

Lactation Not Advisable

Moxonidine is not recommended to use during lactation as it is proven to be excreted in human breast milk.

Driving Not advisable

Patients may experience side effects such as dizziness, headache, nausea or tiredness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive when on Moxonidine. Therefore, do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney High Risk

Moxonidine is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Moxonidine is needed in moderate kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.

Liver Use With Care

There is no information regarding the usage of Moxonidine in Liver disease.
