Uses of Sertaconazole

Sertaconazole is commonly used in the treatment of fungal infections, severe fungal infections and dandruff.

How Sertaconazole Works

Sertaconazole inhibits the 14-a demethylase which reduces the production of ergosterol. Ergosterol is an essential component for fungal cell membranes, the reduction in its production will eventually cause the fungal cell membrane to be more permeable leading to leakage of cellular contents.

Alcohol Safe

It is safe to consume alcohol with sertaconazole because it is a topical drug. However, if you find any adverse reactions of taking it with alcohol please go consult your doctor.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Sertaconazole may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown side effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The usage is allowed if the benefits outweigh the risks. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

No academic reports explaining the use of sertaconazole during lactation are available. It is probably compatible to use by breastfeeding mothers as Sertaconazole does not produce detectable plasma concentrations after multiple applications to diseased skin. Prescribe with caution and instruct nursing mothers not to apply on the breast.

Driving Generally Safe
