You can lower your cholesterol level by changing your diet! For eg, avoid red meat, cheese and other foods that have a lot of saturated fat.
There are different type of cholesterol such as total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol. LDL cholesterol had been known to be 'bad' cholesterol as it increase risk of strokes, heart attack etc. While, HDL cholesterol is known to be 'good' cholesterol as it reduce the risk of such medical conditions. Triglycerides are not cholesterol, they are another type of fat. But they often get measured when cholesterol level is measured. This is because high triglycerides level also seems to increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Symptoms of high cholesterol levels include presence of xanthomas (fat deposits on different parts of the body- at the heel of the foot, around the knee or elbow, and around the eyes); the most serious symptom is a heart attack.
Before a doctor puts you on medicine to lower your cholesterol level, you can lower it by avoiding red meat, butter, cheese, losing weight if you are overweight and being more active!
Avoid high cholesterol food, such as cheese, butter, red meat, fried food! A healthy diet can include: lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, some beans, peas, nuts, milk products and fish. You can achieve normal cholesterol levels by maintaining on a healthy diet.
