Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) combination vaccine is the ideal way of preventing measles, mumps, and rubella. In Malaysia, the MMR vaccine is routinely given to children at the age of 12 months and 7 years. Women who have not had the vaccine should be immunized at least 3 months prior to getting pregnant. Rubella in pregnancy can cause devastating outcome for the child. If you are infected with the virus, stay at home to prevent spreading the disease to other people. You should be excluded from school or work for a few days from the onset of symptoms or until fully recovered. Also, cover up your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze.
