Pruritis

Overview

Pruritus is a skin condition where patients feel uncomfortable and constant itchiness on the affected areas. It can caused by various reasons which in the severe case will affect oneÃ¯Â¿Â½s daily routine.

Signs and Symptoms

Skin redness, Skin bumps or blisters, Dry scaly skin, Skin itchiness

Common Causes

Dry skin, Skin diseases (eg: eczema, psoriasis, insect bites), Chronic kidney disease, Obstructive jaundice, Iron deficiency anaemia, Skin infections (eg: herpes zoster, fungus), Cosmetic or drug allergy, Pregnancy

Investigation Techniques

Full blood count, Renal function test, Liver function test, Serum ferritin, Allergen test

Treatment and Prevention

Steroid cream, Antihistamines, Antifungal cream, Antibiotics, Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (for CKD), Skin moisturizer, Avoid allergen and change to milder soaps or laundry detergents
