Alfuzosin is commonly used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

How Alfuzosin Works

Alfuzosin is a synthetic quinazoline compound. It has smooth muscle relaxing activity which it inhibits alpha-1-adrenergic receptors in smooth muscles of the prostate. Hence, obstruction and urethral resistance are decreased

Side Effects of Alfuzosin

Postural hypotension, Tachycardia, Angina pectoris in patients with pre-existing heart disease, Oedema, Diarrhea, Upper respiratory tract infection, Rhinitis, Bronchitis, Sinusitis, Pharyngitis, Liver injury, Dizziness/Headache, Fatigue, Rash/Pruritus/Urticaria, Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome, Priapism

Alcohol Not Advisable

Not advisable as alcohol will cause further dilatation of the vessels subsequently lower blood pressure. One may have postural hypotension, flushing and tingling sensation of your skin.

Driving Generally Safe

Alfuzosin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Use with caution in patients with renal insufficiency.

Liver Use With Care

Use with caution in patients with hepatic insufficiency.
