Calcium leucovorin/calcium folinate is commonly used to treat colorectal cancer, harmful effects of methotrexate, methotrexate toxicity and megaloblastic anaemia
Calcium Folinate works by entering the cells and stabilises the binding of 5-dUMP with thymidylate synthetase which enhances the fluorouracil activity while neutralising the effects of a folic acid antagonist such as methotrexate.

There is no known or previous data on the interaction between alcohol and Calcium Folinate. The side effects profile also suggest there is low likelihood of augmentation of either substances side effects.
Although there are animal studies conducted with higher dose given and showing no adverse effects on reproduction and pregnancy, there are limited human data to suggest the same. It is, therefore, should only be used when the benefits outweigh the risks.
It is not known if Calcium Folinate is excreted into human breastmilk or not. It is therefore should be used with caution.
There is no contraindication for the use of Calcium Folinate before driving. The side effects profile also suggest no contraindication for driving.
Calcium Folinate is excreted through urine and feces thus in patient with renal impairment, dosage adjustment may be needed to avoid toxicity of the compound.
Calcium Folinate is metabolised by the liver and in those with liver impairment, dosage adjustment may be required.
