How Cefixime Works

Cefixime is an antibiotic. It works by binding and inhibiting the bacterial peptidoglycan synthesis and stops the formation of bacterial cell wall, leading to cell death.

Side Effects of Cefixime

GI disturbances, pseudomembranous colitis, headache, dizziness, hypersensitivity reactions, haematological & hepatic effects.

Alcohol Safe

It is safe to consume alcohol with Cefixime.

Pregnancy Maybe Safe

Cefixime may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown an effect on the foetus, however, there was no confirmation from any human studies. It should therefore not be used in pregnancy or in nursing mothers unless considered essential by the physician.

Lactation Limited Data

There are no data of Cefixime in breast milk, therefore it is best to consult your doctor as a precaution.

Driving Generally Safe

Cefixime usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Cefixime should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Cefixime may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Liver Limited Data

Cefixime is safe to be taken by patients with liver disease.
