Dextrose 5% is commonly used in the treatment of dehydration. besides, it is also used for short term fluid replacement after trauma.
Dextrose are used as sources of electrolytes, calories and water for hydration. Content of sodium and chloride ions in the solution regulates the acid-base balance of body. Besides, it promotes glycogen deposition and reduces or prevents ketosis.
