Dolutegravir is commonly used to treat hiv infection
Dolutegravir is an antiretroviral medication. It prevents viral replication by binding to the integrase active site to block the step of viral DNA integration into the patient's immune cells
Hypersensitivity reaction, Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Headache, Dizziness, Insomnia, Depression, Anxiety, Fatigue
Rare cases of Osteonecrosis have been reported in patients with advanced HIV disease and long- term antiretroviral therapy. However, it is due to several factors including chronic alcohol consumption. The drug interactions is still inconclusive. Please consult your doctor before using it.
Dolutegravir may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus and there are insufficient human studies. Please consult your doctor before using it.
In animal studies, Dolutegravir is excreted in breast milk but there are limited human studies. It is also recommended that HIV- positive mothers do not breastfeed their children regardless of circumstances to avoid transmission of HIV.
Dolutegravir may cause side effects of dizziness, headaches, nausea or tiredness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Dolutegravir excretion through the renal system is not significantly affected in users with kidney disease. Hence, dose adjustment of Dolutegravir is not needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.
Dolutegravir should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate liver disease. Dose adjustment of Dolutegravir is not necessary for these patients. There is inadequate data on usage of Dolutegravir on patients with severe liver disease. Please consult your doctor before using it.
