How Dorzolamide Works

Dorzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor in the ciliary processes of the eye. With this, it decreases aqueous humor secretion, resulting in a reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP).

Side Effects of Dorzolamide

Headache, Burning and stinging of the eyes, Superficial punctate keratitis, Conjunctivitis, Eye itching, Blurred vision, Nausea, Bitter taste

Dorzolamide Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

There is no known interaction between Dorzolamide with alcohol. Systemic absorption of Dorzolamide is minimal to none as it is a topical medication. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Dorzolamide may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may outweigh the risk. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Lactation Limited Data

Dorzolamide is found to be excreted into animal breast milk but its excretion into human breast milk is largely unknown. If prescribed to a breastfeeding mother, lactation should be withheld temporarily. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Driving Generally Safe

Dorzolamide may cause side effects of dizziness and visual disturbances, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive. Do not drive unless you're feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Dorzolamide should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Dorzolamide may be needed. Please consult your doctor. Use of Dorzolamide is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.

Liver Limited Data

Dorzolamide should be used with caution in patients with liver disease it has not been studied for usage in these group of patients. Please consult your doctor before using it.
