How Eplerenone Works

The pathway of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system (RAAS) causes renal reabsorption of sodium, vascular remodelling, water retention and the endothelium. Eplerenone inhibits RAAS involving the kidney, digestive system, cardiovascular tissue and brain tissue.

Side Effects of Eplerenone

Cough, Difficulty sleeping (insomnia), Dizziness, Syncope, Headache, Left ventricular failure, Atrial fibrillation, Decrease in blood pressure (hypotension), Diarrhea, Nausea, Constipation, Vomiting, Rash, Muscle Spasm, Kidney dysfunction

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Eplerenone as it may aggravate lowering of your blood pressure. With hypotension, you may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.

Pregnancy Maybe Safe

Eplerenone may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Lactation Limited Data

Eplerenone is excreted into the breastmilk of mammals in animal studies but is largely unknown in human studies. Due to its potential adverse effect on feeding infant, the decision to continue Eplerenone or withhold breastfeeding is to be done after consultation with your doctor.
