Uses of Everolimus

Everolimus is commonly used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma, prevention of organ rejection in patients receiving a kidney, hepatic or heart transplant as well as in neuroendocrine tumours.

How Everolimus Works

Everolimus is a selective mTOR inhibitor. mTOR is a mediator in the signalling pathway which is known to be upregulated in some cancers. Everolimus also acts as an immunosuppressant by inhibiting T-cell proliferation.

Stomatitis, Rash, Fatigue, Diarrhea, Nausea, Reduced appetite, Low red blood cell, Pneumonitis, Peripheral oedema, Increased blood sugar level, Loss of weight, Increased blood cholesterol, Nose bleed, Cough, Headache

Everolimus Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is generally not advisable to consume alcohol with Everolimus or any chemotherapy medication. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Everolimus may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Lactation Not Advisable

Animal studies showed that Everolimus and its metabolites are excreted into breast milk. However, much is unknown about its excretion into human breast milk or its potential risks to the feeding baby. Hence, women on Everolimus is not advised to breastfeed. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Driving Generally Safe

Everolimus may cause side effects such as dizziness, headaches, nausea or tiredness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney High Risk

Everolimus should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease as cases of failure have been reported in patients treated with Everolimus. Dose adjustment and monitoring of renal function may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Everolimus should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Everolimus may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.
