Fosfomycin is commonly used to treat bacterial infections of urinary tract
Fosfomycin works by inhibiting the bacterial cell wall synthesis by stopping the peptidoglycan formation. The bacterial cell wall loses its integrity and hence died because of osmolarity difference.

There is no clear contraindication of the consumption of alcohol when taking Fosfomycin.
Animal studies have been shown to be safe for fetal development but no adequate data to suggest the same on human pregnancy study or to suggest harm either. Caution should be taken when commencing someone on Fosfomycin during pregnancy.
Fosfomycin has been found in human breastmilk but there is limited human data to suggest harm to the breastfed infants. It should be used only if there are no other alternatives.
It is not advisable to drive when taking Fosfomycin due to its potential side effects such as headache and visual disturbance which can affect the ability to drive and concentrate.
Fosfomycin is excreted via urine and dosage adjustment is needed in patients with renal impairment.
There is no need for dosage adjustment according to the manufacturer labelling as Fosfomycin is not metabolised by the liver.
