Hydroxychloroquine is commonly used to treat psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (sle) and discoid erythematosus. it is also used as antimalaria agent and in prevention of malaria.
Hydroxychloroquine interferes with the ability for Malaria to metabolise and utilise red blood cell. The mechanism of action in the treatment of autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus has not been fully elucidated.

Hydroxychloroquine should not be used during pregnancy as it has been associated with central nervous system damage, including ototoxicity (auditory and vestibular toxicity, congenital deafness), retinal hemorrhages and abnormal retinal pigmentation.
Hydroxychloroquine is probably unsafe to use during lactation as it is excreted in small quantity in human milk and infant is very sensitive to the medication.
Hydroxychloroquine may cause side effects such as dizziness, headaches, tiredness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.
