How Levofloxacin Works

Levofloxacin belongs to quinolones group of antibiotics. In the treatment of bacterial infections it inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase which is an enzyme required for DNA replication, transcription repair, and recombination.

Alcohol Safe

Consuming alcohol with Levofloxacin may worsen the headache, dizziness, nausea, and visual disturbances side effects of Levofloxacin. It is not advisable for people who develop these adverse effects to consume alcohol.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Levofloxacin may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown side effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable even with the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

Levofloxacin is probably safe for breastfeeding mothers. Limited human data suggests that Levofloxacin is compatible to use during lactation.
