Uses of Minocycline

Minocycline an antibiotic of the group tetracyclines of which is commonly used to treat bacterial infections such as meningococcal and mycobacterium, acne, syphilis, urethritis, uncomplicated gonorrhea and periodontitis.

How Minocycline Works

Minocycline is an antibiotic of the group Tetracyclines. It works by inhibiting the protein synthesis (production) of the target bacteria, terminating the bacteria's metabolism, hence killing it.

Side Effects of Minocycline

Headache, Dizziness, Vertigo ie spinning dizziness, Tinnitus: ringing or buzzing in ears, Loss of appetite, Nausea, Vomiting

Minocycline Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

Taking alcohol with Minocycline is considered safe. However, it is suggested that the intake is maintained between minimum to moderation only as to avoid enhanced side effects or liver problems.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Human studies have shown evidence risk towards fetus. However, if the benefit of the medication justify the risk, for example in a life-threatening condition, then usage is allowed.

Lactation Not Advisable

Minocycline is a medication not safe to be used in breastfeeding as Minocycline may be found in the mother's milk and may also affect the infant.

Driving Not advisable

(Do not drive unless you are feeling well.) Because Minocycline may cause side effects such as dizziness, vertigo, and headache, driving or handling machinery is forbidden.

Kidney Use With Care

Minocycline can be used in patients with kidney disease. However, renal function monitoring and dose adjustment may be needed. Therefore, please consult a doctor.

Liver Use With Care

Minocycline can be used in patients with liver disease. However, hepatic function monitoring and dose adjustment may be needed. Therefore, please consult a doctor.
