Pimecrolimus is commonly used to treat atopic dermatitis
Pimecrolimus is an immunosuppressant which works by blocking the activation and proliferation of T-cells which in turn prevent the release of inflammatory chemicals and mediators from the mast cells.

It is not advisable to consume or take alcohol when on Pimecrolimus as the latter may exacerbate the skin side effects of alcohol.
Animal reproductive studies have shown foetal toxicity when only given orally. There is no embryological or fetal toxicity when it is applied to the skin. Pimecrolimus should be used with caution during pregnancy considering the risks and benefits.
It is not known whether Pimecrolimus is excreted into human breastmilk or not. Due to its potential toxicity, Pilocarpine is not advisable to be used during breastfeeding.
Pimecrolimus is generally safe to be used before driving as the side effects profile does not suggest any disruption on the concentration or ability to drive.
No dosage adjustment is needed for patients with renal impairment as indicated by the manufacturer labelling.
