Piracetam is commonly used in the treatment of cortical myoclonus, and as cognitive enhancer in cerebrocortical insufficiency.
Piracetam is a nootropics. It has neuronal and vascular effect in which it protects the cerebral cortex and improves red blood cell deformation and reduces blood viscosity which is found to be a common problem in myoclonus and cerebrocortical insufficiency.

Because alcohol decreases the brain oxygen, it works in opposite of the medication Piracetam. Taking Piracetam with alcohol may have cancelling effect therefore deemed useless.
Although there is no data available on the effect of Piracetam on pregnant women, Piracetam is found to be able to cross the placental barrier. Therefore, it is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Piracetam is contraindicated in breastfeeding mothers because it is found to be excreted in the mother's milk.
Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Piracetam may cause side effects such as drowsiness and nervousness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.
Piracetam can be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Piracetam may be needed. Please consult your doctor. However, it is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.
Piracetam can be used in patient with liver problems and dose adjustment is not needed.
