Uses of Pizotifen

Pizotifen is commonly used to prevent migraine and cluster headache.

How Pizotifen Works

Pizotifen works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin by the blood platelets causing prevention of the loss of the intracranial vessel. It is a sedating antihistamine. Besides that, Pizotifen also can exhibit weak antimuscarinic effects.

Side Effects of Pizotifen

Drowsiness, Nausea, Weight Gain, Drowsiness, Dizziness, Dry mouth, Increased appetite

Pizotifen Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is not advisable to drink alcohol with Pizotifen as it enhances the CNS effects of the Alcohol.

Pregnancy Maybe Safe

Pizotifen may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have not shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

There is limited data on the usage of Pizotifen during breastfeeding. It is advisable to practice caution while taking Pizotifen during breastfeeding.

Driving Not advisable

Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Pizotifen may cause side effects such as drowsiness, tiredness or sleepiness, all of which could affect the ability to concentrate and drive.

Kidney Use With Care

Pizotifen should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Pizotifen may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
