Pyrazinamide is commonly used in the treatment of tuberculosis (tb)
Pyrazinamide mechanism of action reduces the pH of the environment, affecting the growth of M. tuberculosis due to suboptimal environment for its activity.
Hyperuricaemia leading to acute gout, Anorexia, Nausea, Vomiting, Aggravation of peptic ulcer, Arthralgia, Malaise, Fever, Anaemia, Thrombocytopenia, Dysuria, Hepatotoxicity.
Avoid taking Pyrazinamide with alcohol as consuming both substances simultaneously potentiate hepatotoxicity.
No well- controlled studies in pregnant women. Pyrazinamide benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Pyrazinamide is shown to be excreted in breast milk.but its potential adverse drug effects on infants is largely unknown.
Pyrazinamide usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
