Ramipril is commonly used to treat hypertension, heart attack, and heart failure
Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor. It competitively inhibits ACE from converting angiotensin I to angiotensin II which cause an increase in plasma renin activity and reduction of aldosterone.
Cough, Syncope, Dyspnoea, Vomiting, Hypotension, Headache, Angioedema, Dizziness
It is not recommended to consume alcohol while taking this medication as it may potentiate Ramipril side effects of hypotension.
The ACE inhibitor has a small risk of teratogenicity if exposed during first trimester of pregnancy and exhibit possible effect of fetotoxicity during the second trimester onwards. Therefore Ramipril is contraindicated during pregnancy unless the benefits clearly outweigh the risks.
Limited data is available on the safety of Ramipril in breastfeeding. Therefore Ramipril is not recommended to be given to breastfeeding mothers.
Consumption of Ramipril may impair the ability to drive and operating machines. Only drive if you are feeling well.
Dose adjustment of Ramipril is needed in a patient with kidney impairment.
Dose adjustment is needed in a patient with liver failure and close monitoring should be done in these patients.
