Risedronate sodium is commonly used to treat osteoporosis, osteoporosis in men, post menopausal osteoporosis, steroid induced osteoporosis and paget's disease of bone.
Risedronate sodium is able to reduce the activity of osteoclasts which in turn reduce the bone resorption. This mechanism is able to maintain the bone integrity of patients

Alcohol may accentuate the gut disturbances caused by Risedronate sodium. Thus, it is not advisable to consume alcohol with Risedronate sodium concomitantly.
Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicities but there are limited data on the use of Risedronate sodium in pregnant women. Thus, it is contraindicated during pregnancy.
Excretion of Risedronate sodium has been found in animal milk but it is unknown in human breastmilk. Thus, Risedronate sodium is contraindicated during breastfeeding.
Risedronate sodium usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
No dose adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate kidney impairment. However, Risedronate sodium is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney impairment.
Risedronate sodium is safe to be used in patients with liver impairment.
