Uses of Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is commonly used in the treatment of acne, dermatitis, keratoses (abnormal skin growth) and psoriasis.

How Salicylic Acid Works

Salicylic acid softens and eradicates the horny layer by increasing endogenous hydration and eventually peel off itself. Salicylic acid also has weak antifungal and antibacterial activity.

Skin peeling, Dryness, Irritation, Ulceration, Dermatitis

Salicylic Acid Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

It is safe to consume alcohol with salicylic acid as Salicylic Acid is only for topical use.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Salicylic Acid may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown side effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable even with the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Limited Data

There is limited data on the usage of Salicylic Acid during breastfeeding, thus it is recommended to use Salicylic Acid with caution.

Driving Generally Safe

Salicylic acid usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

It is safe to use salicylic acid in patients with renal impairment as this drug only have topical preparation.

Liver Limited Data

It is safe to use salicylic acid in patients with liver impairment as Salicylic Acid only have topical preparation.
