How Sumatriptan Works

Sumatriptan is a selective serotonin agonist. It is an Antimigraine. Sumatriptan works by causing the cranial arteries to get vasoconstriction. Besides that it also neurogenic inflammatory process in the CNS to be inhibited.

Side Effects of Sumatriptan

Nausea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Fatigue, Weakness, Seizure, Flushing, Hypotension

Sumatriptan Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

It is safe to consume alcohol with Sumatriptan. Consuming Sumatriptan With alcohol will not interfere with the way the medication works.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Sumatriptan must be used with caution during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus. However, there are limited well-controlled human studies. The benefits from the use of Sumatriptan in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Not Advisable

Sumatriptan is probably unsafe to use during lactation as some amount of Sumatriptan is excreted in breast milk. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Not advisable

Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Sumatriptan may cause side effects such as dizziness which could affect the ability to concentrate and drive.

Kidney Use With Care

Sumatriptan should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Sumatriptan may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Liver Use With Care

Sumatriptan should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Sumatriptan may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
