How Terbinafine Works

Terbinafine is an antifungal drug. It inhibits an enzyme that is responsible for fungal sterol synthesis. As a result, ergosterol deficiency causes fungal membrane disruption and cell death.

Headache, Decreased appetite, Nausea and vomiting, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Bloating, Visual disturbances, Rash, Joint/Muscle pain, Psychological reactions (depression, taste and smell disturbances, anxiety)

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Terbinafine. Taking Terbinafine with alcohol may have additive effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea, and visual disturbances.

Pregnancy Maybe Safe

Terbinafine should not be used during pregnancy unless the clinical condition of the woman requires such treatment. Animal studies have not shown adverse effects on the fetus and there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor for more details.

Lactation Not Advisable

Terbinafine should not be used while nursing as it can be excreted into breast milk.

Driving Generally Safe

There are no studies on the effect of Terbinafine on driving. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Terbinafine should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Terbinafine may be needed if the creatinine clearance levels are lower than 50 mL/min. Please consult your doctor.
