Vitamin B6/ Pyridoxine is used in the treatment of Sideroblastic Anemia.
Vitamin B6 or its other name Pyridoxine is a water-soluble vitamin involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. In helps in the formation of hemoglobin, GABA synthesis within the CNS and the release of glycogen stored in the liver and muscles.
Severe peripheral neuropathies, Decreased sensation, Headache, Loss of appetite, Nausea, Numbness or tingling, Sensory nerve damage
There is no known interaction between alcohol and vitamin B6.
Vitamin B6 may be safe to use during pregnancy. Controlled studies in women fail to demonstrate a risk to the foetus in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters), and the possibility of foetal harm remains unknown.
Vitamin 6/ Pyridoxine is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that Vitamin B6 does not represent a significant risk to the baby and doses closer to physiologic levels had no effect on lactation.
Vitamin B6/ Pyridoxine has no effect on the ability to drive.
Vitamin B6 is given as a supplement due to the common deficient among the patient with chronic renal failure.
Vitamin B6 is given as a supplement and coenzyme form of vitamin B6 were found to be significantly lower than normal in patients with liver diseases.
