Due to a harsh aftertaste, Kamahi honey was once regarded as a low-quality honey. However, the bitter flavour was unrelated to the Kamahi. Due to the presence of Quintinia nectar, this occurred.
Kamahi Honey, like other raw honey, is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. This is largely due to the high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. This shows that it may be an effective natural treatment for a variety of diseases. Additionally, kamahi is loaded with nutrients, minerals, and antioxidants. In fact, it contains one of the highest mineral contents of any honey produced in New Zealand, second only to honeydew honey. Although first research is promising, the health advantages of Kamahi honey are just beginning to be investigated.
The rich flavour and smooth texture of Kamahi honey make it ideal for spreading on toast. Its caramel notes also make it the ideal coffee sweetener. This honey is wonderful on a cheeseboard and pairs well with soft, white-mould cheeses. Kamahi is an excellent base for sweet sauces and may temper spicy foods like Thai cuisine. Like most honeys, Kamahi honey has its own distinct flavour profile, which some chefs like to exploit. Using Kamahi will bring flavour notes that cannot be obtained with conventional sweeteners.
Kamahi honey, like the New Zealand Raw Unblended Kamahi Honey deserves far more attention than it currently receives. There are numerous advantages to selecting raw Kamahi honey. It is delicious, nutrient-dense, and an excellent value for the price.
