Albumin blood tests, like the Micral II Test, are used to determine the level of albumin in your blood. A blood test for albumin is a type of liver function test. Liver function tests are blood tests that evaluate the liver's various enzymes and proteins, including albumin. Additionally, an albumin test may be included in a comprehensive metabolic panel, a test that evaluates a variety of substances in your blood. Electrolytes, glucose, and proteins such as albumin are among these substances.
What happens during a blood test for albumin?
A health care professional will use a small needle to draw blood from a vein in your arm. Following the insertion of the needle, a small amount of blood is collected in a test tube or vial. You may feel a slight sting as the needle enters or exits. This procedure usually takes less than five minutes.
Is there anything I can do to prepare before the albumin blood test?
There are no special preparations required to test for albumin in blood. If your health care provider has ordered additional blood tests, you may be required to fast for several hours prior to the test (do not eat or drink). Your health care provider will inform you if any special instructions must be followed.
Is there any risk associated with the test?
A blood test carries very little risk. You may experience mild pain or bruising at the site of the needle insertion, but most symptoms subside quickly.
What do the findings imply?
If your albumin levels shows abnormal result, please refer to a doctor for a proper interpretation and treatment if necessary.
