Eye infection is something we commonly see around us. Most of the time, eye infection will not be severe but that doesn't mean that you will not be getting complications if not receiving the correct treatment. Eye infection is cause by microorganisms such as bacteria, virus or fungi. They will present with a variety of eye symptoms such as red eyes, pain, eye discharge, watery eyes, dry eyes, light sensitivity, swelling of the eyes, itchiness, and blurring of vision. There are several types of eye infections and some of the common ones are conjunctivitis, viral keratitis, fungal keratitis, acanthamoeba keratitis, and endophthalmitis. Eye infection can be diagnosed with sufficient history, physical examination, and tests. Eye infection will be treated according to the type of organism causing the infection. There are also complications to look out for such as stye/chalazion, orbital infection, dacryocystitis If these complications aren't treated promptly it will worsen and even cause blindness, meningitis and even death.
