How Moxifloxacin Works

Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic medication. It inhibits bacterial enzymes such as topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) which are essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination thereby impeding bacterial growth.

Side Effects of Moxifloxacin

Superinfections due to resistant bacteria or fungi e.g. oral and vaginal candidiasis, Headache, Dizziness, Nausea, Vomiting, Gastrointestinal and abdominal pains, Diarrhea, Increase in liver enzymes

It is safe to consume alcohol with Moxifloxacin as there is no known drug interaction.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Moxifloxacin is unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicity on the fetus, however, the potential risk for humans is unknown.

Lactation Not Advisable

Moxifloxacin is not safe to use during lactation as the animal studies had shown that there is risk of damage by fluoroquinolones to the weight-bearing cartilage of immature animals.

Driving Not advisable

There is no information regarding the ability of Moxifloxacin to affect driving and general attention. However, patients may experience side effects such as dizziness, headache or nausea all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive.
