Ipratropium is commonly used in the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd).
Ipratropium is an anticholinergic drug. It works as a bronchodilator leading to bronchodilation of the bronchial smooth muscles by blocking the action of acetylcholine at that site. Other than that, it works by inhibiting the serous and seromucous gland secretions.
Dry mouth, Constipation, Tachycardia, Palpitations, Nausea, Vomiting, Headaches, Dizziness
There is no known interaction of Ipratropium with alcohol.
Ipratropium may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown no risk to the fetus. However, there are limited well-controlled human studies. The benefits from the use of Ipratropium in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Ipratropium is probably unsafe to use during lactation as there is limited human data on the use of Ipratropium during lactation and breastfeeding. Please consult your doctor.
Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Ipratropium may cause side effects such as dizziness or blurred vision, all of which could affect the ability to concentrate and drive.
Ipratropium requires no dose adjustment with renal impairment as there is limited study. Please consult your doctor.
Ipratropium requires no dose adjustment with liver impairment as there is limited study. Please consult your doctor.
