Linagliptin is commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus
Linagliptin inhibits an enzyme, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) which is involved in the inactivation of the incretin hormones causing it to become more active and higher in concentration.

A risk to nursing infant cannot be excluded as there is no information regarding the excretion in human milk. Therefore, Linagliptin is probably unsafe to use during lactation.
Linagliptin has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive. Nevertheless, patients should be alerted to the risk of low blood sugar if it is taken with sulphonylurea or insulin.
