Uses of Xylometazoline

Xylometazoline is commonly used in the treatment of conjunctivitis, eye irritation, nasal congestion blocked nose, pupil dilation, and uveitis

How Xylometazoline Works

Xylometazoline, which acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the arterioles of the nasal mucosa is a direct-acting sympathomimetic drug. This thus activates systemic vasoconstriction in people suffering from nasal congestion or blocked nose resulting in a decrease in blood flow in the nasal passages and consequently decreased nasal congestion.

Headache, Insomnia, Tachycardia, Hypertension, Nervousness, Nausea, Dizziness, Palpitation, Arrhythmia

Alcohol Not Advisable

Interaction with alcohol is unknown. You need to consult your doctor before consumption.

Pregnancy Safe If Prescribed

It is unknown and less information whether xylometazoline nasal will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not use xylometazoline nasal without talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.

Lactation Limited Data

Xylometazoline is not known to harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding.

Driving Generally Safe

Xylometazoline usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Topical nasal sprays of xylometazoline used for less than 5 days may be okay. Check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Liver Limited Data

It is safe to use xylometazoline in the short term. However, please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are suffering any liver diseases
